As part of UPLB’s 106th Loyalty Day celebration on October 6, 2024, the ASI-GEI Butterfly House was officially launched at the Organic Agriculture Research, Development, and Extension Center (OARDEC) under the Agricultural Systems Institute of the College of Agriculture and Food Science (ASI-CAFS) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). The event was organized by the Gamma Epsilon Fraternity and Gamma Lambda Epsilon Sorority.
The butterfly house was established as part of the upcoming project, ‘Establishment, Maintenance, and Promotion of the ASI-GEI Butterfly House at OARDEC in UPLB, which shall be spearheaded by ASI. This project aims to create a sustainable butterfly habitat that will provide hands-on learning opportunities for students and promote butterfly conservation. Additionally, it seeks to raise environmental awareness and encourage the appreciation of biodiversity through eco-tourism activities, benefiting both students and the broader community.
Looking ahead, educational tours and hands-on workshops are planned for the near future, offering more interactive ways for the public to engage with butterfly conservation and environmental stewardship.
